Gerald L. Holmes
Originally from Western Oklahoma, Gerald Holmes grew up farming and ranching. He attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture in 1973. He moved to Perryton and continued to work in the ranching industry. Drawing was always a passion and his illustrations appeared in Western Horseman and The Cattleman. In 1978 Gerald started creating the illustrations for Hank the Cowdog and continued until his passing in 2019. Thank you for the memories Gerald.
John R. Erickson
Raised in Perryton, Texas John left the panhandle to attend university and then begome a great novelist. He eventually moved back to the Panhandle to work as a cowboy and began writing what he knew about, ranching. In 1981 Hank the Cowdog makes his literary debute in The Cattleman Magazine titled “Confessions of a Cowdog”. John had no idea that he had just created a legend. Decades later, John has penned over 70 Hank books and counting. In addition to the Hank series, John has written many short stories and non fiction books. He still actively writes and publishes.
